Elongated coins are coins that have been elongated (flattened or squished) and embossed with a new design. They can be found throughout the world at theme parks, zoos, museums, and attractions...the first of which was the 1893 Columbian Exhibition. Many others are created for personal reasons, such as the birth of a baby, a marraige, or business cards. Yet others are created to raise awareness and sometimes funds for private clubs or organizations. Elongated coins are legal under 18 USC Section 331 01/02/2006 and 18 USC Section 475 01/02/2006. |
I started out my elongated coin collection at the 1989 Missouri State Fair. I got one of these odd tokens from a man with a rolling machine at the fair and I was hooked. I would get a coin or two everytime I saw one of the machines. It was not until fairly recently when looking for some Boy Scout related elongated coins that I learned of and was welcomed into the larger elongated coin collecting community. This is when I joined TEC (The Elongated Collectors) Since then I have traded, found locations and eventually got into the designing side of the elongated coin industry. |
My first elongated coin design was for a group that has been very near and dear to my heart for many years. It was to commemorate Bike MS (formerly MS150); a 150+/- mile bicycle ride that raises money for Multiple Sclerosis. With the coins that I had made up for this, I raised more than $800 the first year alone. Take a look around in my gallery to see the designs I have come up with or worked on. This gallery includes a few tokens as well. If you are interested in having your own elongated coin designed, let me know and I would be happy to help you out. |
